5 Tips for a Happy (Healthy) Halloween!

Halloween can be a lot of fun, but there are certain risks involved. Whether you will be driving to a Halloween party or taking the kids out trick or treating, there are several ways to make sure you and your loved ones stay happy and healthy. Our Yorkville chiropractor encourages families to follow these health and safety tips.

Choose Healthy Treats

Halloween candy is usually filled with sugar and other unhealthy ingredients. Choose healthier treat alternatives instead, such as pretzels or candy made with dark chocolate, which contains heart-healthy antioxidants.

Bring a Flashlight

If you will be walking around the neighborhood going door to door for candy with the kids, bring a flashlight. Use the flashlight as it gets darker outside, so you can see in front of you when walking between houses or approaching houses. Having a flashlight also makes you more visible to drivers.

Drive Safely

If you will be driving around, make sure you stay at the speed limit, wear your seatbelt at all times and watch for pedestrians and other cars. If you will be heading out to Halloween parties or other festivities at night, use extra caution when you are out on the road. Driving safely reduces your risk of serious injuries from car accidents.

Check Candy

If your kids will be getting candy from various houses, go through it and toss anything that is unwrapped. For safety reasons, only allow your kids to eat store-bought candy that is properly packaged, rather than homemade treats from people you do not know.

Place Jack-o-Lanterns in Safe Areas

Jack-o-lanterns can be fire hazards when they have lit candles inside them. You can use a flameless light inside these decorations, or put them in an area where they will not be accidentally tipped over.
