The holidays are a time of eating, drinking, and traveling with friends and family alike. Whenever you are not driving three hours to stay with your family, you are drinking eggnog and chowing down on savory ham with your friends. Unfortunately, this can leave little time to get in a workout during the holiday season. However, by prioritizing your time and thinking outside of the box, you can find ways to exercise even with your busy schedule!
Waiting around in the airport during a layover or delay is tedious and boring. Spice things up by getting in some cardio. Take a speed walk through the terminals, do some lifting repetitions with your baggage, or even do some yoga in a corner.
If you are used to running 5 miles a day and doing two hours of lifting, you have to come to terms with the fact that this is not going to happen over the holidays, especially if you are on vacation. Instead, condense your usual workout into a shorter but just as intense timeframe. Instead of jogging 5 miles, try sprinting intervals for 10 minutes. When weight lifting, consider doing more reps with less sets in order to further intensify your workout.
You might not have used a jump rope since your childhood, but it is a great way to get in a bit of cardio without the need for equipment or much space at all. It is easy to pack away in your luggage and can be used nearly anywhere. The small jumping motion gets your heart pumping and legs burning.
If you have an exercise plan in mind, you will be much more likely to actually follow through with it. Write down a routine and practice it a few times before you leave so you can perform it on the go.
